SILENT WAVES

2017

'Silent Waves' (H80 x W150 x D5 cm) is a wall relief sculpture made from razor-cut plywood layered with enamel and lacquer spray paint. Its pattern is a self-composed design based on the observed pattern of a collection of study tables found in the SOTA library.

The work transforms the functional furniture into an abstract amalgamation of waveform patterns to creatively capture the object's design from an aesthetic perspective. It also responds to a casual pondering over the banal silence of the space, as with the nature of libraries, created for the act of studying. The silence is not often created instead for the purpose of observing a position of pure meditation.

The work hopes to serve as a reminder for users of the study space to take time from the usual routine of studying for exams or working for assignments, to observe a moment of inner silence for themselves by simply being in their environment, to ride the calm ebb and flows of life.
